It took a couple of spins for Shock to the System to worm its way into my brain (the title was a little prescient, perhaps?) but once it did, the hooks were in deep, and I just want to keep spinning it over and over. Tower plays with speed and aggression on headbangers like "Blood Moon", "The Black Rose" and "Powder Keg" and expertly weaves '70s proto-metal vibes throughout the album with even a little doom on the slower paced and menacing "Prince of Darkness". The guitars are wickedly distorted as they play fat, fuzzy and reverbed riff after riff while singer Sarabeth Linden belts out the lyrics like the second coming of Ann Wilson from Heart. Tower is a new band out of New York that plays heavy metal loud and proud like it's 1981 on their second album, Shock to the System.
